3rd prize: Claudia Moreau, Université du Québec à Chicoutimi
Claudia Moreau has worked as a research professional in genetics and bioinformatics in Professor Simon Girard’s laboratory at Université du Québec à Chicoutimi since 2018. She began her career in 2001 in a population genetics laboratory, where she studied the evolution of human populations, particularly in Québec in connection with genealogies and historical data. To that end, she helped recruit a cohort of Quebecers that is still used today.
With the advent of new technologies in genomics, she migrated autonomously to more advanced genetic and bioinformatics analyses on increasingly big data and hundreds of complete genomes. She has overseen projects leading to the publication of nearly 40 papers, including nine as first author, in scientific journals and general publications.
She has presented her projects at scientific conferences and to wider audiences in an effort to democratize knowledge. Claudia Moreau has also helped write the grant applications and supervised the projects of the close to 20 students with whom she continues to share her passion for genetics.
